I grew up in East Detroit and was one of those neighborhood kids who climbed the fence to get into Caesars games for free. We'd sacrifice one kid who was obviously climbing the fence for a distraction in center-field, security would go there and dozens would get in in left. So this site is my payback to the Ilitch family for the "free" games.
My favorite story from the Caesars was when we would sit under the stands. There was about a 3-foot gap there so you could be right on the field and we'd climb under by the on-deck circle. Former Yankee Joe Pepitone (the Caesars would eventually try to buy his contract) was on-deck for New Jersey being heckled by 12-year olds. He took offense and threatened us with placement of a bat that is impolite to share, but "turning us into popsicles." A friend with no sense of fear called him on his bluff, calling him "horse shit" for the threat, and we took to that as a chant. Children have no mercy. Joe could handle heckling in New York and Boston but not some kids in suburban Detroit. So yes, I've been threatened with bodily harm as a child by Joe Pepitone thanks to the Caesars.
Anyhow, I've a few Caesars items in my collection, and while I'm not a collector, I'd love to know if you've anything from the team. Drop a note or a photo. And I do love hearing from fans, families and even former Caesars or APSPL players (just maybe not Pepitone). I heard from the family of Mike Gouin a few years back as Mike would talk about playing professionally and what a big deal it was. Tall tales from grandpa turned out to be quite true. It's all a fond memory of my childhood and I hope this site helps you to connect to memories of your own.
